Abstract

The Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) was established in 1929 through the amalgamation of the state-based architectural institutes. In 1930 it received permission to add 'Royal' to its title, but since 2008 has been known as the Australian Institute of Architects. The AIA supported the design competition for a new architecture building at the University of Melbourne.
