Abstract
The Design Competition was a two-stage process for selecting an architect, architectural practice or architectural team to work with the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (ABP) and The University of Melbourne to design the new ABP building on the Parkville campus.
Notes
The call for expressions of interest (EOI) was the first stage in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning Architectural Design Competition. Any architect, architectural practice, architectural partnership or architectural team worldwide was eligible to submit an EOI, provided that they were registered as a practitioner in their place of origin and could satisfy the registration requirements in the State of Victoria, Australia. Expressions of Interest were evaluated by the competition jury and narrowed down to a final six. The six shortlisted entrants were invited to continue to the competition phase. The competition was the second and final stage of the Architectural Design Competition. The competition began on 26 June 2009 with a site visit and briefing session for the finalists and the competition jury. The final six entries in the competition were judged according to: design quality, value, methodology and design, and delivery capacity. The submission of competition entries and presentations to the jury took place on 12 and 13 August 2009. The jury assessed the entries during September 2009, and the competition winner was announced on 30 September 2009. After the announcement of John Wardle Architects and Office dA as the winning architects, competition entries and a selection of expressions of interest were exhibited in the Wunderlich Gallery in the Architecture Building at the University of Melbourne.
